A lady called Pam recently contacted me as follows:
"Can anyone tell me about a furniture making business in the Village called Swanns. I believe they made church furniture in the 1950's or 60's
Thank You."
Well there was only a brief mention on the site about Tim Swann, furniture maker, who had a workshop in Heddon in the 1960s. That spurred me into a little research, which I have now added to the People section.
"I am training for Reader Ministry and have been on placement at -- church in -- where I was struck immediately by the quality of the craftsmanship, and simple yet elegant design of the Chancel furniture. Sorting out the church for Easter day gave me the opportunity to examine it and I found the Heddon mark on one of the chairs. Although aware that they were good quality, and valuing them for their beauty, people were quite unaware of how important they were in terms of twentieth century craftsmanship and design, as was I, but thanks to the obituary link you sent a little bit more of the church history has become complete and we are quite chuffed to know more about the furniture.
Thanks Pam"
It's good to get a little bit more of Heddon's history properly recorded.
