Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your continued support shown towards Heddon Juniors Football Club over recent years. The juniors were first set up in 2017 with a single squad of Under 11s and have now flourished to a point of having a proposed 23 squads for the 2020-21 season, ranging upwards from under 5s development to under 14s. Earlier in the year, it was proposed a senior male squad for the 2020-21 season to further the development prospects of the club. I am delighted to announce that the club have been inundated with expressions of interest for the squad, meaning they have been able to further propose a reserves squad as well as the first team squad. The executive committee have unanimously voted to rename the club Heddon United Football Club, allowing a direct link up between the juniors with many from the village and the seniors under their management. Following communication with the Northumberland FA the club can bring the new name into immediate effect. In addition to the above success I can confirm that Heddon United Football Club are overwhelmed to announce they have been granted £3,960.00 by the Football Foundation towards the cost of new goalposts for Victrix Park.
A massive well done to everyone who was able to come to their front doors and windows last Thursday evening for the national clap for the NHS, Carers and key workers who are maintaining to deliver exceptional services during these difficult times. I would also like to give a special mention to resident Pete Tanton who during the applause played a special rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow on his trumpet which could be heard across many streets in the village which truly was an emotional moment for us all. Again, I would encourage everyone to stay positive, stay connected, stay together and stay safe because will all come out of this pandemic stronger than ever before. Take care!

Lets remain positive...I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who were able to last Thursday evening in an emotional ‘Clap for Carers’ in a tribute saluting the NHS, care workers and key workers who are working through the coronavirus pandemic. The volume of applause throughout the village was fantastic and a true blessing.
It is truly amazing the reaction that this coronavirus has had on our community with many families spending times creating pictures of rainbows appearing across many windows within Heddon. If you are exercising around the parish, try to spot them as everyday another one seems to appear!
Despite the uncertain future that we face, one thing that has appeared from this pandemic is togetherness, new friendships and more engagement to one another ensuring that we are all with one another and no one is alone. So I would keep encouraging everyone through this difficult time is for everyone to be strong, because things will get better. It may be stormy now, but it never rains forever! Keep smiling, stay positive, stay safe and stay active! We are all in this together and we can get through this with the power of this strong community!

AN invitation to the older people of the village, especially those who have difficulty getting out and about and who have felt lonely during the winter months. Why not go along to a daffodil tea to celebrate the coming of spring? The party will be held in the WI Hall on Thursday, March 5 from 3pm to 5pm. It is promised that you will receive a warm welcome and a lovely homemade tea. Heddon Primary School Choir will be entertaining attendees and will soon have everyone smiling and feet tapping. This is certainly a date for your diary.
I’M delighted to announce I have accepted the role of community engagement officer of Heddon Juniors FC. I will be responsible for overseeing the good relationships Heddon Juniors have forged with the local community as well as developing new ones. Heddon Juniors FC would like to thank all members and supporters for their suggestions for the naming of the new home ground -they had some wonderful suggestions! I can confirm that the new ground will be named Victrix Park after the Roman legion tree carving in the village.
The garden room in the Methodist Chapel is open every Thursday morning from 10am until 11.30am for friendship, conversation and a cuppa. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Methodist Chapel is hosting its next men’s fellowship on Saturday, March 7 with guest speaker Matthew Barrick. The fellowship will commence at 10am.

Heddon Women’s Institute is holding a Pancake Day on Saturday, February 29 from 11am to 1pm with sweet and savoury fillings, traybakes, tea and coffee and a grand raffle. Everyone is welcome!
Congratulations to the trustees of the Sir James Knott Memorial Hall who have been awarded £17,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund to further modernise the kitchen. Two of the trustees of the hall attended an awards ceremony for the grant at Beamish Hall. To further the achievement the announcement was made to residents at a Coffee Morning held in the hall as part of National Village Hall Week which proved to be a popular event giving residents and visitors the opportunity to see what this fantastic village has to offer by groups hoping to gain new users and enhancing the community engagement.
I’m delighted to announce that Heddon Juniors Football Club have passed the FA Annual Health Check and remain an FA Charter Standard Club. Well done to all the managers, coaches and officials for making this possible and continuing the great success of the football club developing the local youngsters within the community.
Good Luck to Alistair Colin a member of Close House Golf Club who is aiming to raise £20,000 for the British Heart Foundation. Colin has worked as a scorer at a number of European Tour Golf tournaments and has embarked on a challenge to play the Golf Monthly Top 100 golf courses in the UK and Ireland over the next two years.
Congratulations to Paul Edwards who has been elected as the new chairman of Heddon Parish Council. Paul comes with extensive experience and will sure bring some new ways of working to the Parish Council. I would like to wish Paul all the very best in his new role.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Christmas bauble appeal. We hope you all enjoyed decorating your discs and the Heddon Branches committee is pleased to announce that it raised £120. The money raised has been divided between the Newcastle West End Food Bank and helping towards the cost of an information panel to go next to the tree carving Roman legionnaire Victrix. This will inform both visitors and those new to the village about the story behind Victrix.

It is promised that you will receive a warm welcome and a lovely home-made tea. Heddon Primary School Choir will be entertaining attendees and will soon have everyone smiling and feet tapping. Don’t forget to take your used postage stamps you have collected to Heddon Post Office. Patricia will collect them and send them to a charity to make good use of them.
Thank you to all the knitters who made beanie hats for the seamen and homeless. These were welcomed with open arms when they were delivered and the Heddon Stitchers received a very appreciative letter of thanks. The Royal Victoria Infirmary and Kenya still need hats, blankets and jumpers for premature babies. Monetary donations for Fr David towards postage to Africa, however small, are welcome. In addition, Heddon Stitchers received some knitted teddy bears that have been give to Northumbria Police to give to children who are victims of family trauma. If you are interested in joining Heddon Stitchers, please go along on Mondays in the Knott Memorial Hall.
