Heddon on the Wall Methodist Church

The Strollers have now disbanded and the following details and maps have been copied from their Heddon Methodist Church website (with thanks).

If you want a longer walk, the Pathfinders Walking Group
meets outside the Methodist Church on the last Wednesday of every month.
WALKING IN AND AROUND HEDDON ON THE WALL

Heddon Circular
1
Start and finish at the Church. This walk is relatively level. The only caution is the field you have to cross approaching/Just after West Heddon Farm which can be wet and/or muddy depending on the weather and time of year.
Heddon Circular 2
Start & finish at the Church. There are steep gradients on Station Road and at Heddon Banks. We usually go down Station Rd & up Heddon Banks as Station Rd is a tough road to walk up. The choice is yours. There are fields to walk across so the going can be muddy.
Heddon Circular
3
Start & Finish at the Church. Fields and roads with a steep climb at Heddon Banks or through Heddon Common, depending on which way you walk the route. A lot of this walk is in and around Close House Golf Course, please be mindful of those playing golf and look out when crossing the fairway.
Heddon Circular
4
Start & Finish at the Church. Fields & roads. Quite a gentle walk but can be quite boggy/wet. The only other caution is that this walk takes you across the sometimes busy A69 dual carriageway.
Heddon Circular
5
Start & Finish at the Church. Fields and roads, there are steep gradients at Heddon Banks and between Throckley House & Bank Top.
Ponteland Circular

Start & Finish in the car park near Ponteland Swimming Pool on Callerton lane. Mainly hard under foot and easy going there is some grass/fields to walk through. There is an added bonus of a Tea Van at the Quarry entrance near Newcastle Airport.
Wylam/Crawcrook

Starting on the South side of the bridge you can park on Wylam Wood Road/Station Rd about 200 yards on your right after the level crossing. There's quite a hill to climb and can be rather boggy in places.
Wylam/Clara Vale

Start & Finish on the south side of Wylam parking as above, Wylam Wood/Station Rd. A pleasant walk with wonderful views back over the Tyne towars Heddon On The Wall. You can do the walk in either direction, along the riverside first or leaving that path till the end. There's a diversion around the quary.
Prudhoe Circular

Start & Finish in the Falcon Pub car park. Walking down the road from the car park the entrance to the Stanlyburn woods comes to view as the road bends. It will pay to cross over the road higher up than the bend. There's a well trodden trail through the woods, however there are a few diversions that may have you going the wrong way. When you come to the cross-roads in the woods keep going straight on. You may come out onto the road in a couple of places, just remember to turn right for the track to Durham Riding.
